Rob: Pink Flyod is probably the biggest influence on all of us. Also, taking it way back, The Beatles most definitely. As far as some of the current bands on the scene, all kinds of electronic music, whether it be The Crystal Method, Square Pusher or Sound Tribe (STS9)—all were certainly influential. We’re also all into Jazz, so bands like Medeski Martin and Wood that were able to cross over. We also gather a lot of interest from the pop world, too, such as Arcade Fire, and then, of course, bands like Phish, and Primus, which were extremely influential when we formed the band.
Caleb: If I’m remembering correctly, you guys played right before Primus at All Good Music Festival, right?
Rob: Yeah, that was a dream come true.
Caleb: Can you elaborate on that experience?
Rob: It was really crazy. I’ve literally been listening to Primus since the 5th grade. And Moe. I had seen a handful of times and we were right on after them. But literally during that experience time went so slow up until we got on stage, and when we got on stage time went by so fast. “
Caleb: You guys killed that set.
Rob: Thank you, dude, it was amazing! I felt so good after it.
Caleb: There was said to be around 20-30,000 people there for that show…that’s quite impressive.
Rob: Ya know, I’ve felt way more nervous at other places, but at All Good, I felt really good about that whole thing. For instance, the first time we played Newport… absolutely shaking dude!
Caleb: (Laughs) Understandably. Any plans for a new album that fans should be aware of?
Rob: Yeah, man. We are working on a double album, but there is no release date yet. We’d like to put in the time to perfect it. A lot of stuff on the backburner we haven’t even brought to the table. We like to have a completed double album some time this Fall, but in the meantime, we may be doing like a music video or something, so were trying to keep it going. But at the same time we’re doing so much touring, it’s hard to pencil in the three weeks of time where you can just go kick it in the studio.
Caleb: You guys have recently relocated to North Carolina, correct?
Rob: Yeah, Ashville. They call it a lot of things, but I’ll tell you it’s a really great place when you get off tour to call home. There’s always something going on. People are into some really cool shit! But it’s also a well-rounded place, man. It’s the south. There are always shows going on.
Caleb: Lastly, Rob, where do you see Papadosio in the next five to ten years?
Rob: Honestly, man, in five to ten years I hope we’re continually playing a lot more in Europe. I really hope we blow up all around the world because I think our message is worth hearing. |
